Argo Energy, one of the leading renewable energy developers in South Korea, has completed its self-developed 5 MW solar power project in Jindo, Jeollanam-do, which has reached commercial operation in November 2025 following the signing of a project financing agreement in July 2025.
The Jindo project marks a key milestone for Argo as it represents a fully self-developed initiative – from land acquisition and permitting, financial closing, and construction – completed entirely in-house. Designed as a hybrid model combining Korea’s Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) and RE100 mechanisms, the project demonstrates how Argo’s integrated approach can support both regulatory renewable energy requirements and growing corporate demand for clean power.
Donguk Jo, CEO, Argo Energy, commented: “This project is a testament to Argo’s ability to independently execute every stage of development and construction. It reflects our strong in-house capabilities and commitment to delivering high-quality renewable projects that drive Korea’s energy transition. Building on this success, we plan to accelerate our development of agrivoltaics, rooftops, and mid to large scale solar projects through early-stage investments.”
Argo Energy continues to expand its renewable portfolio nationwide and is actively developing a pipeline exceeding 400 MW, encompassing projects across RPS, RE100, power purchase agreements, subscription, and leasing models. The company is also pursuing new opportunities leveraging idle land, rooftops, parking lots, and agricultural areas to further advance South Korea's distributed energy generation and sustainability goals.

ARGO ENERGY COMPLETES FINANCIAL CLOSING FOR 7.8MW SOLAR PROJECT
Argo Energy, in renewable energy, announced that it has completed financial closing for a 7.8-megawatt (MW) solar power project and commenced full-scale construction. The project, which Argo Energy has led from development since 2021 through all permitting processes, features a combined model integrating RPS (Renewable Portfolio Standard) and RE100 (100% renewable energy) programs. "This project is designed to simultaneously meet RPS compliance requirements and RE100 demand from global corporations," said Jongyoung Jung, COO of Argo Energy, emphasizing that it represents a business model ensuring both flexibility and profitability in the renewable energy market. Since initiating the project in 2021, Argo Energy has independently managed the entire development process, including site acquisition, administrative procedures, and permit acquisition. Following the completion of financial closing, the company has now entered the construction and operation phase. "This project, developed entirely through our own capabilities from the early stages, demonstrates a business model that simultaneously satisfies RPS compliance and RE100 demand," said CEO Donguk Jo. "It represents a meaningful achievement that sets a new direction for domestic renewable energy development." Beyond this project, Argo Energy is pursuing multiple additional solar developments and plans to strengthen its portfolio to meet growing RE100 demand over the medium to long term.

ARGO ENERGY ENTERS KOREAN ROOFTOP SOLAR MARKET WITH ACQUISITION OF 10MW PORTFOLIO
Argo Energy (Argo), one of the leading renewable developers in Korea, has entered the rooftop solar market with an initial acquisition of a 10MW portfolio through a strategic partnership with one of the leading developers in the market. The portfolio comprises fully operational rooftop solar assets, each supported by long-term offtake agreements with leading and well-established industrial clients recognised for their ESG leadership. The acquisition represents the first phase of Argo’s broader strategy to develop a sizeable rooftop solar portfolio in Korea, with additional pipeline projects currently being developed with the local developer. In addition to securing stable operating assets, the transaction underscores how onsite solar installations can deliver tangible value to industrial customers, reducing long-term electricity costs while supporting their decarbonisation goals. Backed by deep development expertise, institutional capital and a disciplined approach to execution, Argo is well positioned as a trusted partner to both industrial energy users and local developers. The company offers scalable onsite renewable solutions tailored to corporate energy transition strategies and aims to actively support companies pursuing RE100 and other sustainability commitments. Donguk Jo, CEO of Argo Energy, said: “This rooftop solar acquisition marks a significant milestone in our mission to accelerate Korea’s renewable energy transition. Since our establishment, Argo Energy has been at the forefront of Korea’s renewable energy expansion and today we are one of the most active and comprehensive renewable developers in the Korean market.” Tareq Sirhan, head of energy, North Asia, at sustainable infrastructure investors Actis, commented: “Korea needs more renewable energy and it’s great to see Argo Energy play its role by ramping up solar generation, this time through this acquisition and entry into the rooftop solar market. The industrial and commercial sector in Korea increasingly understands the benefits of clean power, to both reduce costs and decarbonise. Argo is working to help meet that demand.”

ACTIS BACKS SOLAR PLATFORM ARGO ENERGY IN FIRST SOUTH KOREAN ENERGY INVESTMENT
• Argo Energy is Actis’ first renewables investment in South Korea • Investment builds on close to a decade of experience operating in South Korea’s real estate market LONDON, 27 March 2024: Actis, a global investor in sustainable infrastructure, has completed its investment into Argo Energy, a South Korean renewable energy platform focused on the development of small utility scale and rooftop solar. Actis has committed to invest up to circa US$100 million and will own 100% of the platform, targeting a contracted portfolio of over 400MW over the next few years. Argo Energy currently has 110MW of solar projects already in operation or in advanced development. The investment represents Actis’ first energy investment in South Korea as part of its Asia climate strategy, which aims to accelerate the climate transition and reduce carbon emissions in the region. Actis’ entry into the South Korean energy market aims to support the country’s acceleration of renewables deployment as part of the energy transition. South Korea is the eighth largest energy consumer globally and last year the government set new targets to drive the renewables industry, targeting a cumulative 72.7GW renewables capacity by 2030 and 108.3GW by 2036, from 24.9GW in 2021. As part of this drive, the government has introduced direct power purchase agreements (PPAs) and is encouraging corporate PPAs. Additional supportive policies are also being put in place to address issues such as land and grid connection for larger projects. The firm’s existing experiences in the South Korean market, stemming from almost a decade of investing in real estate assets in the country, including greenfield development, under the leadership of Scott Choi, Actis’ Head of Korea, Real Estate, were critical in securing this investment. Asanka Rodrigo, Partner, Energy Infrastructure at Actis, said: “It’s an exciting time to be investing in Korean renewables. Korea is an energy intensive industrialised economy and needs to ramp up its renewable power generation to meet its target to get to net zero by 2050. Our investment will help Argo Energy scale up and become a significant player in the small utility scale solar market.” Tareq Sirhan, Head of Energy for North Asia, Energy Infrastructure at Actis, commented: “Actis operates at the intersection of one of the largest global investment opportunities, sustainable infrastructure, and it’s terrific we’re expanding into the energy sector in Korea, building on the synergies from our real estate investments in the country to back a dynamic renewables platform in Argo Energy ready to take on the market. The investment represents yet another example of Actis ramping up its renewables investments across Asia.” Jose Blasco, Founder and CEO of Argo Energy, and his management team will continue to lead the business. Actis’ ownership of Argo Energy continues the firm’s approach of investing in renewable energy platforms across Asia, and follows the launch of Nozomi Energy in Japan last year as well as investments into BluPine Energy in India and Levanta Renewables in Vietnam in 2022. ### About Actis Actis is a leading global investor in sustainable infrastructure, delivering competitive returns for institutional investors and measurable positive impact for the countries, cities and communities in which it operates. Actis invests in structural themes that support long-term, equitable growth in defensive, critical infrastructure across energy transition, digitalization transition, and supply chain transformation.
